MADRID, 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The first edition of the Skoda Titan Series Almería, which will be held from December 8 to 12, was born with the same spirit as the ‘mother’ race of the Titan Desert, which was held in 2020 in the Almería area and not in Morocco due to COVID-19, and with the will to come to stay and be a parallel MTB stage race.
With registrations still open until November 29, this first edition of the Spanish Titan has the support and participation of Joaquim ‘Purito’ Rodríguez or the extriathlete Iván Raña, in addition to having the same ‘titan’ spirit as the original test of the Titan Desert of Morocco.
The Skoda Titan Series Almería will have a 4-stage tour plus a prologue, capable of offering a unique combination of sea and desert. During the stages, cyclists will have the opportunity to ride in front of the coastline and discover Costa de Almería, and also to enter the Almeria desert.
The first cyclist to confirm his presence is the former professional ‘Purito’ Rodríguez, who participated in the 2019 Titan Desert, the fourteenth edition of the event. “The Titan is a special race. In Almeria I expect more mountains than in Morocco, a route that will surely adapt better to my conditions. And it motivates me a lot to be back in the camp. It is a family,” acknowledged the Catalan.
The characteristic cowboy town of the Tabernas desert will become the Titan camp for a few days. The place where the participants will coexist after the stages in their shared tents, the Hall where they will have meals and the Sheriff’s station, among other spaces, where recovery areas and physiotherapy or mechanical assistance will be enabled, among other services.
The test was born as a result of the “love story” between the Titan Desert and Almería, as the Andalusian city hosted the 15th edition of the world’s most prestigious MTB event in stages in a forced transfer from Morocco, where it was not possible to carried out because of COVID-19.
Titan World Series, the organizing company, which arises from the union of RPM-MKTG and ASO, managed at that time to transport the titan experience, in all its essence, to a new territory that gave participants the opportunity to get to know a try as the Titan Desert and live the adventure in the closest way to the original test. Now, they choose to create the Titan Series in Almería.
The president of Titan World Series, Juan Porcar, also assures that the test arrives without an expiration date. “Fate in the form of a pandemic took the Titan Desert 2020 to Almería. It was an extraordinary experience. What was then thought would be an exception since the Titan Desert would return to Morocco after the pandemic, has become a reality called Skoda Titan Series Almería. An event that was born with the desire to continue indefinitely in time, “he said.
