The Russian Federation withdraws its appeal against exclusion from the 2022 World Cup

The Russian Football Federation (FRF) withdrew this Tuesday its appeal against the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) to exclude his team from the qualifying play-off for the 2022 World Cup.

As announced on Tuesday by the TAS, the FRF informed it on March 30 that it was withdrawing this appeal, so the procedure, in which the Russian body had appealed against the FIFA and the Federations of Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic“will be finished shortly”.

in the middle of last month the CAS had rejected the precautionary suspension of FIFA’s decision to suspend Russian teams and clubs due to the conflict in Ukraine. This meant that they could not aspire to play the semifinal of the qualifying play-off for the World Cup against Poland, a team that finally qualified after beating Sweden, which in turn had won the Czech Republic.
