MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM) ended the 2023/2024 academic year this Saturday night with the celebration of the 2024 National Awards ceremony at the Santander Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses.

The RFEBM recognized the institutions and personalities that have contributed in the last year to keep the projection of this sport strong. The event was headed by President Francisco V. Blázquez, together with the mayor of Santander, Gema Igual Ortiz, and the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Eva Guillermina Fernández, both thanking that the Federation once again “trusted a great event to handball to Santander”.

The important successes of the last year in sport, both in the field of national teams with the Guerreras and the Hispanics as the greatest exponents, and of clubs, have been the common thread of an emotional event for the handball family. With the musical group ’14 strings’, the distinctions were awarded to the winners of each of the twelve categories.

Blázquez and his counterpart in the Valencian Federation and also director of the federative entity, Pedro Fuertes, were in charge of providing the first recognitions of the night in Santander. The most emotional moment that the gala left was the recognition of two greatest exponents of Spanish handball who died this last year: Ricard Hijós and Joaquim Planas.

The day began this Saturday with the 2024 Ordinary General Assembly of the RFEBM, with Francisco V. Blázquez in his eleventh year at the head of Spanish handball. In addition to reviewing the sporting successes, Blázquez celebrated the financial balance for the 2023 financial year with a surplus and total income of more than 15 million euros.

Among other issues, the president of the RFEBM has stressed his total willingness to negotiate so that an agreement is reached for the maximum men’s competition for the good of the sport, with respect to the calendar for next season.
