The Premier rejects the five changes next season

The Premier League has made the decision not to endorse the idea of FIFA and dismiss the five changes for next season. Thus, the English domestic championship will only allow the realization of three substitutions in three team breaks, as it has been done in the years prior to the pandemic.

The measure, promoted by European organizations to alleviate the lack of preseason and the accumulation of parties derived from the Covid-19 crisis, has been in force in these months due to exceptional circumstances. However, FIFA has approved maintaining the measure for next season, for the fact of having a different calendar than the usual one, more compressed. It is not even ruled out that it ends up settling after almost a season and a half implanted.

However, The Premier has wanted to distance itself from that idea and has refused to continue with the regulation change in 2020-21. This was voted in a meeting held this Thursday, when the clubs considered that the five changes are beneficial for the big teams.

It is the first European league to opt for this idea and, in fact, it is usually a pioneer in this way of acting. It was also a pioneer in the introduction of goal technology, resisted the implementation of the VAR or has maintained a somewhat different approach to other competitions such as sending or not the collegiate to the screen or entering only and exclusively in clear and overt plays.
