The Pre-Olympic of the 'Guerreras' in Torrevieja, presented at Fitur

MADRID, 24 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2024, which is being held at the Ifema venue in Madrid, hosted this Wednesday the official presentation of the Pre-Olympic Handball Tournament that will be played in Torrevieja (Alicante), between April 11 and 14, with the presence of the Spanish women's team in search of their ticket to Paris.

On this path towards the next Summer Olympic Games, the 'Guerreras' will meet on the field of the Torrevieja Sports Palace with the teams of the Czech Republic, Argentina and the Netherlands, four candidates to share the two places in the running.

“The Torrevieja City Council, the Provincial Council of Alicante, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and the Generalitat Valenciana are the three main institutions that make possible the organization of the Pre-Olympic, assumed by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, all of them with a prominent role in a new edition of Fitur,” RFEBM itself indicated in a press release.

The mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councilor for Sports, Diana Box, attended on behalf of the Torrevieja City Council. The mayor himself commented that hosting the Pre-Olympic “is very important for the city of Torrevieja on a sporting, touristic and economic level.”

“That is why we wanted the Provincial Council and the Generalitat to join our commitment to once again welcome the 'Guerreras', with whom we identify so much,” he added. “I want to thank the RFEBM for their trust so that we can once again be the team's headquarters and we hope to be the Guerreras' passport for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said Dolón.

The president of the RFEBM, Francisco Blázquez, stated that “in Torrevieja we are working our way to the semifinals of the historic 2021 World Championship that we organize and there we want to get the ticket for the Paris Games.” And Blázquez stressed the importance of fighting for a ticket to Paris “in an ideal place” for it.

“The Valencian Community is a place where you breathe Handball, it is my home and there we will once again enjoy the essence of our Warriors in the Pre-Olympic. We need the best place for the most important event within an Olympic cycle and Torrevieja is,” argued the head of the RFEBM.

This presentation of the Pre-Olympic also included Antonio Pérez, president of the Provincial Council of Alicante, while Vicente Barrera, vice president and counselor of Culture and Sports, and Luis Cervera, general director of Sports, attended on behalf of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The RFEBM recalled that the Pre-Olympic will take place in a venue with capacity for 4,500 spectators, which was already one of the venues for the World Championship that in 2021 was held in Spain thanks to the host status of Torrevieja, Granollers, Castellón and Liria .
