MADRID, 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Pope was very grateful to Argentine footballer Lionel Messi for sending him a Paris Saint-Germain shirt, his new club after leaving FC Barcelona last summer, and assured that his compatriot will always be able to count on him.
“Lionel Messi, dear brother, thank you for the shirt and dedication,” the pontiff said in a video published this Friday by the Argentine news agency Telam. “Thank you for standing your ground. Stay that way. God bless you, you can always count on me,” he added.
The person in charge of delivering the shirt was French Prime Minister Jean Castex, who gave it to the Pope during a visit to the Vatican. The new PSG striker had written in his dedication: “For Francis, with a lot of love”.
During his time at FC Barcelona, Messi already sent the leader of the Catholic Church several shirts of the Catalan club. Pope Francis is considered a great soccer fan and his favorite club is San Lorenzo.
