The North Face celebrates the 30th anniversary of the iconic Nuptse jacket

Launches the original silhouette designed 30 years ago with a new retro collection with details inspired by its origins

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The North Face re-releases the 1992 Anniversary Retro Nuptse in three iconic colors and patterns inspired by that year’s fall catalog to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

A model that revives from archival designs and includes the original pattern on the chest area and additional baffles, minimizing the displacement of the down and increasing warmth, a 1992 patch on the right sleeve, an internal panel with the cover from the fall 1992 catalogue.

It also picks up a catalog-inspired color palette incorporating the iconic TNF Red, TNF Blue, and a special Retro Anniversary Edition featuring a black and white pattern.

“The origin and designs of The North Face have always prioritized construction for the most extreme conditions with functional styling, creating a unique capability that has been relied on by vast numbers of explorers for over 55 years. The Nuptse meets these design principles with its timelessness and we are proud to commemorate its 30th anniversary with a design that perfectly celebrates its roots to this day,” said Tim Hamilton, Vice President of Global Creative for The North Face.

The North Face Nuptse Jacket was created in 1992 as part of The North Face’s innovative Expedition System, a unique layering system built for the high mountains and proven by the brand’s global athletes. The Nuptse was the first jacket to use an innovative baffle construction that minimized down displacement and increased warmth.

The origin of the name of the Nuptse jacket comes from the Himalayan mountain range, located southwest of Mount Everest. The correct Tibetan pronunciation is ‘Nuptse’, where ‘Nup’ means west and ‘Tse’ means peak.

Since 1996, the jacket has remained in The North Face collections and has been updated over time to remain among the most on-trend jackets, while at the same time maintaining much of its iconic, nostalgic silhouette. It remains The North Face’s most sought after product and continues to be a bestseller for the fall-winter season.

In 2020, The North Face made its first collaboration with Gucci, including the Nuptse 1992 in its collection. The Nuptse ’92 is now available to buy in the iconic TNF Red, TNF Blue, and a special Retro Anniversary Edition with a black and white pattern.
