The ‘oranje’ expands its domain and frustrates Argentina again
MADRID, 17 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Netherlands women’s field hockey team beat Argentina (3-1) this Sunday to win the 2022 World Cup in the final held at the Terrassa Olympic Stadium.
The ‘oranje’ was once again the executioner of the Lionesses, who already succumbed to their greatest rival last year in the final of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Netherlands once again stayed this classic to lift their ninth world title in 15 editions.
The Dutch team, who came from being champions in 2014 and 2018, chained a third World Cup in a row with a strong performance that began to opt for their side in the second quarter, with goals from Maria Verschoor and Frédérique Matla.
In the restart after the break, Felice Albers, MVP of the final, made it 3-0 and forced Argentina to go desperate. At the beginning of the last period, Agustina Gorzelany cut for the albiceleste from a ‘penalty-corner’ but the ‘oranje’ did not give up any more ground.
The bronze in Terrassa was hung by Australia, also this Sunday, by beating Germany (2-1), the seventh world podium for the ‘aussies’, executioner of Spain in the quarterfinals, while for the Germans it is their best result from 2010.
