The men’s team beats Romania in its debut at the European Water Polo

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s water polo team began its journey in the European Championships, which are being held in Croatia, with victory, and is already warming up after adding its first victory on Monday (9-16) against Romania.

The current world champion began the event with authority and hardly gave the Romanian team options. A quiet and uneventful debut for a Spain condemned to win all three group stage games to get a direct pass to the quarterfinals.

David Martín’s team got the first goal and quickly went 0-3, with Granados and Munárriz in command of the offensive in their debut. Romania responded timidly, although Barroso closed the first quarter with a 1-4 without unforeseen events.

Spain, faithful to their game, was solid in defense and participative in attack, disarming the rivals with a 3-8 before the break. With the ‘mattress’ assured, Martín refreshed the bench and gave minutes to the youngsters Valera and Paul. A wardrobe background that yielded in the third set (7-13).

The team fine-tuned its system against a physical rival, who scored 9 goals against one of the clear favorites in the first round of the world champions, in search of European gold after falling short in Barcelona 2018 and Budapest 2020.
