The villager of Guarnizo values the roots of the Gento family in their hometown

The mayor of Astillero, Javier Fernández, recalled this Wednesday Real Madrid legend Paco Gento, the municipality’s favorite son, as the “best ambassador” of the town, while also highlighting his “humanity” as a “unique” person.
“The loss of Gento is a tremendous disappointment, he is the best ambassador we have had in our municipality. It is a family that has always let itself be loved, it makes us very sad. Our municipality turned to him, he is a favorite son, he has a street with his name. He is a person who, not only in the world of sports, achieved everything, but in human treatment he was a unique person,” Fernandez remarked from the funeral chapel at the Santiago Bernabéu, after the former soccer player’s death.
The mayor of the municipality also valued all of Paco Gento’s achievements as a footballer. “When you talk to the oldest neighbors they tell you about all their careers on the wing, a unique player who made many generations interested in football. He left a very important mark in the municipality, the new generations have always had Paco as their a benchmark,” he said.
For his part, Alejandro Hoz, mayor of Guarnizo, Gento’s hometown, highlighted “the roots” of the family in Guarnizo and “the pride” felt by the soccer player for “spending time in his town, where he will rest with his two brothers and sisters”.
