The loss due to injury of Alberto Moreno has opened the debate at Villarreal about whether or not the club should reinforce the left-back position. Moreno will be out for six months after undergoing surgery on the ligament in his left knee.
Initially, the Sevillian player was chosen for the start by Emery. Alfonso Pedraza and Jaume Costa started as alternatives for possible substitutions. Even, Pedraza led that fight, since since his return from Betis he was counting much more for Emery.
The problem with Pedraza lies in his contract, since he only has one year left. The idea of the club is to renew it and bet on its continuity, especially since it is emerging as the owner. If he did not renew, Pedraza would be released at the end of the season, which would make Villarreal lose any chance of winning with a transfer. Now, Moreno's injury has precipitated events and will force the club to decide.
Villarreal's first option would be to renew Pedraza and have Costa as a replacement, what would solve this situation with two players from the house; without having to make a significant investment. While the other possibility would be to search the market for a player that it can reinforce that left wing this season, something that is debated at the moment. If you go to the market, the most logical option is to have a loaned side.
