the list of those who want to live 120 years, by Beatriz Cortázar

The hall of the Hotel Wellington in Madrid, the bullfighters’ Hotel par excellence, was packed this Monday with an audience seeking the answer to their most ambitious desire: be able to reach 120 years of life. The cardiologist Manuel de la Peña presented his book, in whose pages he collects all his knowledge and experience in longevity, and what better way to do it than with real examples of some of his patients who have already passed those 100 years. The secret or potion of eternal youth has always been the greatest treasure for those who cling to life tooth and nail. Live long but live with quality. That’s the question.

Manuel de la Peña, a man who always likes to dress in the colonial style, surrounded himself with friends and patients but he had at his side two experts in taking care of himself and following his science, such as the comedian José Mota and the actress Loles Leon.

And humor is precisely one of the great pieces of advice that the doctor usually recommends if you want to live long. Selective memory to forget bad memories, not smoke, monitor cholesterol and tension, eliminate toxic people, laugh as much as possible, dance, listen to comforting music, take care of the microbiota… de la Peña made it very clear: 25 percent of us are genetic inheritance, the other 75 are what we take care of ourselves.

Without losing any of what was said there, the former vice president of the Government was in the front row Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega. Like all attendees, Maria Teresa also looks for those secrets that lengthen life and make us excited about everything. At his side was the president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezowho didn’t stop laughing the whole time and it was his turn next to Santiago Segura and you already know what happens. Segura and Mota, both riding, not only work on many projects together, but it is clear that they care a lot about their health and have no intention or rush to cross over to the afterlife.

The doctor could even prescribe them because the truth is that at their side the fun is guaranteed. Jose Maria Garcia I arrived late but in time to speak and remember his radio moments, just like the right-hander Jose Ortega Cano He was also able to receive warm applause from the guests and thank the doctor for his advice. The bullfighter, who this season celebrates his 50 years as an alternative, knows like few others what it is like to be about to die and that is why he values life and takes care of himself as if he had to go out into the ring the day after tomorrow. He confessed that today he does not drink a drop of alcohol and that he exercises daily.

There is no doubt that the call, organized by public relations, Richi Castellanos, was a summit of adults who want to stay in shape and celebrate the best in life, without letting the years weigh them down. From Jaime de Marichalarwhose pants played a trick on her, leaving half of her calf almost exposed, to the actress Charo Reinathe futurologist Rappelthe lawyer and former president of Real Madrid, Ramon Calderonthe actor Juanjo Artero, Jaime Martinez Bordiuor himself Albert Riveraamong a very long list of attendees, went home with the feeling that life can be as long as one wants. At first glance it sounds very good.
