Ernests Gulbis is far from being that tennis player who became Top-10 in 2014 and who has 6 titles in his record. At 33 years old, the Lithuanian tennis player once again made waves during the run-up to the Australian Open.
A visibly overweight Gublis faced Portuguese Gastão Elias in the first round of the tournament and, despite winning the first set 7-6 (5), Elias managed to turn the score around 6-2 in the second set and, when he was leading 3-1 in the third, Gulbis decided to retire.
The lack of physical condition took its toll on Gublis, who had to be treated at the end of the second set with a heart rate monitor to measure his oxygen level. An image that is far from that tennis player who several years ago threatened to gain a foothold in the tennis elite.
