The last meeting of King Felipe VI with Fernando Gómez-Acebo: this was his farewell

Fernando Gómez-Acebo, the cousin of Felipe VI, died this Friday night at the age of 49. Infanta Pilar’s son had been suffering from respiratory problems for some time, which have worsened in recent months. This Friday, King Felipe went to the Quirón University Hospital, located in the Madrid town of Pozuelo de Alarcón, to say goodbye to his cousin.

The visit, of a private nature, took place moments before Fernando’s death. As reported this Saturday by the magazine Weekthe Queen Sofia and the Infanta Margaret They also traveled to the aforementioned medical center to say goodbye to the businessman.

It is expected that the Kings, as well as Queen Sofía and the infantas, will go this Saturday to the La Paz Mortuary in Tres Cantos (Madrid) to say their last goodbye to Fernando Gómez-Acebo. The first to arrive was Infanta Elena. Don Juan Carlos’s first-born daughter has entered through the back door of the funeral home to avoid the press.

His family life and his hectic love relationships

Affectionately nicknamed ‘Coco’, Fernando was the youngest son of Luis Gomez Acebo and Infanta Pilar, who died just four years ago from colon cancer. Discreet and very familiar, he was very close to his brothers: Simoneta, Juan, Bruno and Beltrán.

Fernando’s love life was hectic. He married for the first time in 2004 with Monica Martin Luque, a wedding attended by the emeritus and also by Kings Felipe and Letizia. The couple announced their separation seven years later due to “incompatibility of characters.” Five years later, Fernando regained his enthusiasm alongside the Greek journalist Nadia Halamandari. They said “I do” in a very discreet ceremony held in Athens, just four days before becoming parents of their first and only child, Nicholas. Rumors of separation have followed them since 2017, although at that time they were denied by ‘Coco’ himself.
