Real Madrid did not raise their voices this Saturday, after being defeated at home against Alavés (1-2) in a highly debatable match for the white team, but in which arbitration also played a crucial role. Alavés began winning thanks to a first goal by Nacho's hand that did not admit discussion, but in the remaining minutes there was four other possible penalties that Cordero Vega did not sanction and against which González González, from the VAR room, did not require the arbitrator to review the actions.
Three of those four penalties would have favored Madrid: a demolition of Duarte over Hazard, a grab from Laguardia to Casemiro in a corner and finally, Laguardia's hair pulling on Marcelo, the clearest play of all. Alavés could also claim a Possible penalty from Casemiro to Rioja in the second half. But Cordero Vega did not consider these four actions punishable and the reality is that Madrid left Valdebebas with another penalty against that raises his count to five this course. It is the leader of said statistics, along with Valladolid.
But Valladolid can say that they have been awarded four penalties in their favor, while Madrid's balance in that section is -3. The white team also leads that unofficial statistic, equaled -3 with Osasuna and Huesca. Barcelona has a positive balance (+1) and the table is crowned by Atlético (+3) and Real Sociedad (+4).
However, Madrid sent a slow message after Saturday's game, although within the club there is indignation with how the arbitrations have been developing in recent weeks. Not only for that: they are also concerned about the performance that the team is showing, capable of the best (Barcelona, Inter Milan …) and the worst (Cádiz, Shakhtar, Alavés …).
Coldness of Casemiro, Zidane and Butragueño
As soon as the game ended, Casemiro did not make blood with the refereeing issue: “This is not the right time, we know that the VAR is there to help and we have good referees in Spain.” In the press room, Zidane said he had not seen the action of Laguardia and Marcelo. And in the box, the director of Institutional Relations of Madrid, Emilio Butragueño, threw serenity: “Marcelo's grip on it seems that there is grip on it, but there is the VAR, just like in Hazard's and there little we can say about it. Let's not insist on it ”. Nothing to do with Butragueño who openly complained a year ago when Madrid was not awarded two clear penalties on Varane at the Camp Nou: “It is disconcerting that the VAR did not intervene, man. They are two very clear plays. It is very disconcerting for everyone.”
These unmarked penalties against Alavés join several complaints from Madrid, especially centered on the match in Valencia in which the white team left with a serious correction (4-1), in a match in which Carlos Soler also scored three penalties. That day, the white complaints came for a foul on Asensio at the start of the play that would end at 2-1 for the Chés and for the penalty that would mean 3-1, by Marcelo on Maxi Gómez, understanding the club that in that case Maxi had been the one that fouled the Brazilian, and not vice versa.
