On the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is commemorated this 8
March, women and girls from different parts of the world, who participate in LaLiga Foundation projects, have wanted to send a message of hope to society to defend equal rights and opportunities and claim the role of women in sport in general and football in particular.
As reported by LaLiga, around 2,500 girls from different countries have already participated in different workshops, activities and sports competitions, “improving their confidence, their self-esteem, as well as their social skills and sports knowledge, through football as a vehicle for integration to improve their quality of life.”
Likewise, 134 coaches and 10 referees have been trained, receiving specific training with the aim of offering them new opportunities for the future and empowering the figure of women in the sports field in countries such as El Salvador, Jordan, India, Cameroon and Uganda, among others. .
For its part, in Spain, through the educational project ‘Futura Hobby’, the youngest are being educated “in values, equality being one of the central themes of the program, in order to
to raise awareness from an early age”. In addition, LaLiga Genuine Santander, an inclusive and pioneering league in the world for people with intellectual disabilities, involves 77 players over 16 years of age.
For Olga de la Fuente, director of the LaLiga FOUNDATION, “gender equality is one of the axes of action” of the entity. “That is why we work with the objective of strengthening the role of women and their professional performance in the sports field, empowering women and girls to achieve full integration in society,” she added.
