The King takes over from Letizia at the Olympics

Don Felipe is preparing his visit to Paris. According to the Royal Household, it will be “at the beginning of next week” when the head of state will travel to the capital of the Seine to support Spanish Olympics and take over from his wife. Queen Letizia, who made her debut on Wednesday, has become a talisman for athletes.

This strategy of continuous and tireless support from the Royal Family in Paris was advanced by the monarch himself at the Spanish embassy in France, where he stressed that they would take turns. At the reception for the athletes on July 25, Don Felipe expressed the desire – he said – to “accompany you in some of the competitions that we can.” And he added how they had been organized in Zarzuela: “We are going to distribute ourselves among the members of the family, the Queen and I, the Infanta and the Princess and Queen Sofia. We will not be at all (the events), but we will be at the greatest number.”

With his visit, the monarch picks up the baton from Queen Letizia, who in turn took over from Leonor and Sofia. The family’s time in Paris has left us with an album of photos on Instagram with the most spontaneous gestures and the most applauded reels. And the continuous selfies. They will be the images of the summer. From that inaugural ceremony soaked by the rain with the plastic raincoats, the tests that the daughters of the King and Queen witnessed and their poses with Rafa Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz and Pau Gasol, to the passion of Letizia cheering on the water polo team.

On Friday 2 August, the Queen encouraged athletes Mario García, Adel Mechaal and Ignacio Fontes after competing in the 1500-metre athletics event.
