The International Tennis Federation (ITF, for its acronym in English) revealed on Tuesday that it will use the rankings to June 7, 2021 to determine qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.
The ITF has made this change bearing in mind that the competition has been moved for one year due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The qualification for the Olympic tennis tournament will be determined using the ATP and WTA rankings of June 7, 2021”, the ITF announced in a statement.
The eligibility criteria remain the same and Each nation may classify four players in the individual table and two couples in the doubles table. In addition, the ITF has announced that the classification system for wheelchair tennis will remain unchanged until the end of 2020 to ensure that all athletes who have been chosen for these Games are also chosen for the 2021 event.
