Italy lives days of fear for the coronavirus emergency, and until next April 3 all stadiums (and any sporting event) will remain closed to the public. An unavoidable measure, if we consider that until March 15 they will not open colleges and universities, and that could lead to A revolutionary novelty: televising the entire Serie A championship in the open. The League, waiting to know the position of the operators, opposes.
The idea is from sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora, who has sent a letter to the presidents of the federation (Gabriele Gravina) and from the Lega Serie A (Paolo Dal Pino): “The authentic vocation of sport is unite and allow everyone to enjoy an exciting show, without stress or fear. With this spirit I ask, in this delicate situation, if there are conditions to allow free television enjoyment of football competitions“.
According to Spadafora, “It would be a wonderful sign to all Italians, and a way to limit the inconvenience due to containment measures and, even, actively cooperate to achieve its purpose. “
The Italian football federation (FIGC) immediately approved, but while the response of 'Sky' and 'Dazn', holders of the transmission rights, is expected, the League has already opposed: “We understand and share the underlying purposes of Minister Spadafora's request, but the current regulatory framework and the contractual obligations already assumed do not allow“.
