The most relevant mid-distance test on the island returns to normal after the restrictions due to the pandemic

MADRID, 27 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Nearly 800 runners, 35 percent of them women, participate this Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m., in the Ibiza Half Marathon, the most important middle-distance race on the island that returns to normal after the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers report in a statement.

The race will start in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia and the runners will travel the first eight kilometers to the emblematic enclave of Cala Condal, from where they will turn left towards Sa Caleta.

From that point, and leaving San Jorge de Ses Salines to the right and in a completely flat final section, they will reach the Port of Ibiza, where the finish line will be located. The arrival of the first participants is expected from half past ten in the morning.

The route, with a negative drop of 475 meters above sea level and ending at the foot of the port, will be ideal for all those athletes who seek to improve their personal best. The distance has the approval of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA).

35 PERCENT WOMEN

For this edition, the number of participants from the entire European continent from editions prior to the pandemic has been reached with just over 800 registered. In addition, the large percentage of female participation stands out, which this year will reach 35 percent of all those registered.

Among the most represented nationalities, apart from the Spanish, the runners come mainly from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. “We are very excited about the event being held,” said Andoni Valencia, head of the Ibiza Half Triathlon Sports Association, organizer of the event.

The race is sponsored by the Consell d’Eivissa and the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and the collaboration of the Patronat d’Espors d’Eivissa for its 40th anniversary this 2022.

Ibiza managed not to stop its sports life on the island in 2021, complying with all COVID protocols. The Half Marathon returns to a calendar that integrates eight tests this 2022, with which it is intended to place Ibiza as a benchmark in sports practice apart from its leisure offer.
