The Government posthumously grants the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica to Concha Velasco

This Tuesday, the Government granted Concha Velascowho died last Saturday, December 2, the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica posthumouslyan artist who has been loved “by all Spanish men and women.”

This was announced by the Government spokesperson and Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar AlegríaAt the press conference after the Council of Ministers.

“Everyone will agree that if there is an artist who has been loved by this country, by all Spanish men and women, that was Concha Velasco and that is why, beyond all the recognitions she has had over more than 60 years dedicated to the artistic world, today the Council of Ministers has decided to grant this Grand Cross,” Alegría reported.

The actress died this Saturday at the age of 84 at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda (Madrid) and was buried on Sunday in the Pantheon of Illustrious Personages of the El Carmen cemetery in Valladolidwhere he was born.

In the summer of 2021, the artist's health deteriorated drastically and her children decided in March 2022 to move her to a residence. In December of that year she had to be admitted to the hospital, with digestive system, liver and arthritis problems.

Among the awards he received throughout his life, the Miguel Mihura, the Film Academy Medal and the Gold Medal for Merit at Work stand out, in addition to eight Fotogramas, the “A lifetime” from the Television Academythree awards from the Actors' Union, four Medals from the Circle of Cinematographic Writers, the Ondas Award and the Valle-Inclán Theater Award.
