The 2019-2020 Ghana League was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced on Wednesday. The executive council of the Ghana Football Federation made the decision “after a marathon meeting.”
Of this Ghanaian championship 15 of 34 days had already been played and Customs Stars was leader with one more point than Berekum Chelsea FC when the tournament was suspended in mid-March due to the pandemic.
The Ghana Federation has decided to retain the same representatives as last year in continental competitions. Therefore Asante Kotoko will participate in the Champions 2020-2021 for the CAF Champions League, which he has already won twice, while Ashanti Gold will play the CAF Confederation Cup, the African equivalent of the Europa League.
The next editions of the CAF continental cups were due to start on August 7, but it is very likely that this start-up will be postponed due to the Covid-19.
