A total of 5,000 runners will participate this Sunday in the 22nd edition of the Getafe Half Marathon, in which a large African participation aspires to beat the test record, set by the Kenyan Vestus Chemjor Cheboi in 2020.
The 1:01:08 accredited by Vestus Chemjor Cheboi two years ago is the reference to be beaten by the male participants, among which are the Ethiopians Denekew Haptamo and Jena Sintayehu, the Moroccans Youssef Ben Hadi and Aimad Bouzaine, the Kenyans John Kurui and Geofrey Kipyego, the British Robert Simpson or the Spanish Jesús España.
The European 5,000m champion will seek to finish among the first Spaniards in the race at the finish line located at the Juan de la Cierva Sports Center, venue of the last Spanish Athletics Championship.
In women, the Ethiopians Belay Birtukan and Yemer Betelihem and the Kenyans Ivonne Cherop, Valentine Jebet and Isgah Cheruto will seek victory in an event in which the Spanish Tamara Sanfabio, Lucía González (two-time winner in Getafe) and Mercedes Pila also participate. Spanish marathon champion.
The Getafe Half Marathon, one of the fastest in the Community of Madrid circuit, has a circuit approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), with hardly any hills and designed to achieve good records, as the record of 1:01.08 of the last edition held in 2020. The Media, in addition, is one of the first sporting events of the year for Getafe after being named European City of Sport 2022.
