The cousin of Felipe VI, aged 54, died on August 12 due to the cancer he suffered from and which he preferred to keep in the strictest privacy.
His funeral chapel was attended on Monday in Calvià by Queen Sofia, who consoled and supported his nephews Simoneta, Bruno and Beltrán in this painful ordeal. Only 5 months ago his younger brother died, Fernando Gomez-Acebo. The mortal remains of the son of the Infanta Pilar were scheduled to be transferred to Madrid for burial on Thursday 15 August in the family pantheon at the San Isidro cemetery and then to hold an intimate funeral in his memory. However, there has been a last-minute change. In the absence of official confirmation, Juan’s funeral has been postponed until next September, so that his entire family can say their final farewell. Perhaps so that other members of the Royal Family can be present.
The sad news of the death surprised the King during his private vacation, at a destination that has not been disclosed. Felipe VI is currently resting with Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.
