The FEB and the Junta de Andalucía formalize their collaboration to “grow” Spanish basketball

MADRID, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), Jorge Garbajosa, and the general secretary for Sport of the Andalusian Government, José María Arrabal, signed this Friday the collaboration agreement between both entities for the celebration of different events national and international in the region, with the presence of the two senior basketball teams, and thus “grow” Spanish basketball.

“Today is a very special day, we take a giant leap into the future for vision, ambition, and because with this agreement we are going to play a lot of basketball. In 2023 we reach our centenary, and that will be a wonderful excuse to grow our basketball and , thanks to this agreement with the Board, our great central act will also take place in Andalusia”, reported Garbajosa at the event held at the El Higuerón Training Center Pavilion, in Fuengirola (Málaga).

The agreement contemplates the organization of different events, among which are the Men’s Under-17 World Cup next summer, two qualifying matches for the 2023 World Cup for the men’s team and two others for the women’s team qualifying for the EuroBasket 2023.

The next two induction events into the Hall of Fame (2022 and 2023) will also be held in Andalusia, as well as 3×3 Herbalife Series tournaments and several Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank events. And another of the ‘dishes’ of the agreement is the celebration of the FEB centenary commemorative match in August 2023.

Thus, the Secretary General for Sport of the Junta de la Andalucía, José María Arrabal, assured that this agreement “means much more than having the possibility of hosting major events.” “With this agreement, Andalusia offers itself to the world as the ideal place for sport and becomes, as of today, the home for Spanish basketball,” he added.

“The FEB has managed to consolidate a competitive model, but with a load of invaluable values, not only for sport, but for the whole of Spanish society. We want to marry that philosophy, and for Andalusia to see itself in that example,” said Arrabal .

The signing of the agreement was also attended by the president of the Andalusian Federation and the vice president of the FEB, Antonio de Torres; the general director of planning, facilities and sporting events of the Junta de Andalucía, Isabel Sánchez; the mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula; the ‘Team Manager’ of the selection, Carlos Jiménez; and former international players Berni Rodríguez and Carlos Cabezas.
