The Dutch Milan Vader, in an induced coma after his fall in Itzulia

The Dutch cyclist Milan Vader (Jumbo-Visma) is in an induced coma after his serious crash on Friday in the fifth and penultimate stage of the Tour of the Basque Country, Itzulia.

According to dpa reports, the teammate of the Olympic champion Primoz Roglic had to undergo an operation at the Cruces Hospital due to the fall he suffered less than 100 kilometers from the finish line of the 163.8-kilometer stage between Zamudio and Mallabia .

The Dutch runner had affected carotid arteries, as well as fractures to the clavicle, shoulder blade and several vertebrae and a pneumothorax, among other injuries.

On Friday night, the Jumbo-Visma offered the first data of what happened. “We want to inform you that Milan Vader’s situation is stable. Milan is receiving very good medical care at the Bilbao University Medical Hospital,” he said at the time.
