The defeats of Martínez and Llamas leave the Montpellier tournament without Spaniards

MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis players Pedro Martínez and Pablo Llamas fell this Thursday in the round of 16 of the Montpellier tournament (France), in the ATP 250 category, eliminated at the hands of the Croatian Borna Coric and the Dane Jolger Rune.

In his debut at the French event, Coric added eight aces and saved the four break opportunities he conceded to knock down the 26-year-old Valencian in the first duel between the two, 6-4, 6-0. Martínez, who beat his compatriot Jaume Munar in his debut, could not chain and add a second victory in 2024.

Llamas, who achieved the second victory of his ATP career by passing the first round in Montpellier against Richard Gasquet, could not handle an even bigger opponent. The 21-year-old from Jerez met a first-seeded Rune who brought out his quality in the second set to seal a hard-fought victory against the rising Spaniard (7-5, 6-2).
