The CSD shares the concern of Spanish athletes and joins the “defense of clean sport”

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Higher Sports Council (CSD) is clear about “the concern” of the 78 Spanish athletes who this Wednesday expressed in a letter their “firmest and absolute rejection of the latest actions” of the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission (CELAD), and that is why he joins “his defense of clean sport” after the latest news published.

“We share the concerns of the athletes and we join their defense of clean sport,” CSD sources told Europa Press. “In addition, it is worth remembering the measures adopted so far this year,” these sources added before listing three key aspects.

Firstly, “the transfer on January 2 to the State Attorney General's Office of the result of an investigation carried out within the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports following a complaint for alleged irregularities in the use of public funds and in the control and sanction of doping by CELAD”.

Secondly, “the renewal of the leadership of CELAD with the appointment of Silvia Calzón, who was Secretary of State for Health between August 2020 and November 2023, a period in which she managed the worst moments of the pandemic and the coordination of the vaccination campaign”.

In this sense, Silvia Calzón “was appointed at the proposal of the president of the Governing Council of CELAD, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, who has valued her academic training, her professional career and the management capacity demonstrated as a senior position.”

And thirdly, the CSD pointed out “the renewal of the Governing Council” of CELAD itself. “In addition, a fluid relationship and loyal collaboration with the World Anti-Doping Agency has been recovered,” these sources specified.

A team of experts from the World Anti-Doping Agency is scheduled to visit CELAD on February 27, “continuing the collaboration framework established in different meetings and conversations” in recent weeks, following the imminent sanction of Mohamed Katir and other provisional sanctions to two more athletes.

“Likewise, one of the first measures of the new CELAD leadership will be the launch of a Coordination Commission for the Fight against Doping, of which more details will be offered soon,” the CSD concluded.
