The CPE will ask the International Federation to award the bronze to Elena Congost

MADRID, 9 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) will prepare a document to request the International Paralympic Athletics Federation (World Para Athletics) to award the bronze medal to the Spanish athlete Elena Congost and her guide Mia Carol in the T12 marathon event, according to sources from the CPE itself.

The Catalan, who was competing in this event eight years after winning gold in Rio 2016 and after having given birth to four children, was disqualified on Sunday after having won bronze for “an irregularity” with her guide just a few metres from the finish line.

Congost entered the finishing straight well, quite the opposite of his companion, who was very cramped and whom he tried to help so that he would not fall, with the bad luck that in doing so, the rope that unites them came loose for a moment just a few metres from the finish line.

The judges eventually disqualified her for a breach of Rule 7.9.5. The Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) appealed, but the appeal was unsuccessful and the bronze medal went to Japan’s Misato Michishita.
