The Cowboys’ “There’s no doubt in my mind that we could work together,” Jerry Jones said about ex-Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is “100% supportive” of their head coach Mike McCarthy, even though his team did not make the playoffs for the second time in three years.
Initially, Jones played down any idea that he was trying to replace McCarthy this offseason when asked about his personnel at the Senior Bowl this week.
He told reporters that he “didn’t talk to anybody who is a head coaching candidate apart from my own.”
When Jones was asked about his general respect for Belichick, he quickly changed the subject to how well they got along. Jones also seems fully willing to look for Bill Belichick to be a possible replacement in the future, if needed.
NBC Sports reports that Jones said, “I know him and I like him.” “I have no doubt that we might succeed together. None. None.”
But he’s also reportedly been scouted by teams that already have head coaches, like the Philadelphia Eagles, who play in the same NFC East division as the Cowboys.
Belichick, 71, still doesn’t have a team after being fired as coach of the New England Patriots after 24 years in Foxborough. The Atlanta Falcons hired Raheem Morris after he did two interviews with them.
In the past few years, Jones has gone both ways on McCarthy, publicly stating his support for the previous Green Bay Packers coach many times while also hints at a staff change.
In his four years as head coach, McCarthy has led the Cowboys to three straight 12–5 records. However, they have only won one playoff game during that time.

Even though Jones wouldn’t say for sure what would happen with Belichick, he did talk about how he and the probable Hall for Fame head coach might work together.
When Jones talked to Yahoo Sports lead NFL reporter Jori Epstein, she said, “I know him and I like him.” “I have no doubt that we may succeed together. None. None.”
After leaving the Patriots, Belichick only interviewed in the Atlanta Falcons to obtain a coaching job.
However, the Falcons hired Raheem Morris, who used to be the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, as their new head coach.
That job via the Washington Commanders is still open, but it looks like Belichick will take one year off and start interviewing again in 2025.
Each of the last three years, the Cowboys came out with a 12–5 record and just one playoff win. If the Packers have another bad playoff game, Jones might fire Mike McCarthy.
Many people thought that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would fire coach Jason Garrett after his team lost a big 48–32 game to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card game.
Jones did not, however, fire coach Mike McCarthy shortly after four years at the Lone Star State. McCarthy will start his fifth season as coach of the Cowboys with a 42–25 record and a bad 1–3 record in the playoffs.
This could be one reason why Jones seemed to have no problem talking to reporters Tuesday about erstwhile New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Even though there are a lot of open coaching jobs right now—nearly a quarter of them—Belichick is still on the market.
