We review the controversial plays of Mallorca-Real Madrid, match refereed by Sánchez Martínez with Medié Jiménez in the VAR.
Casemiro’s foul on Ángel without a card (14′)
Casemiro played the Clásico in the first stages of the match against Mallorca. The Brazilian, who is playing on his guard, could see a yellow card in the 14th minute for a foul on Ángel from behind. The match referee, Sánchez Martínez, made a move to show him the card, but in the end the Real Madrid player was not booked.
“For me it is a play where Casemiro should have been cautioned. It is a tackle where you shoot from behind touching the ball with your right, but with your left you knock down the opponent. This type of play is very dangerous for the physical integrity of the players. Touching the ball first does not exempt the action from being reckless”, explains Iturralde González, referee of AS and Cadena SER. “A similar move left Ruiz de Galarreta out for nine months. They are very reckless moves that if you’re unlucky enough to catch your foot, the injury would be screwed,” adds Iturralde.
In the broadcast of Sports Carouselother commentators such as Álvaro Benito and Mijatovic agreed with Iturralde’s opinion that this foul should have resulted in a yellow card for Casemiro.
Maffeo tackles Vinicius without penalty (29′)
Nearing the end of half an hour, Mallorca was able to keep ten due to a hard tackle from Maffeo to Vinicius that Sánchez Martínez did not even indicate as a foul. “It’s red. She goes with the heels up. You can’t go with the heels at knee height. What are we rewarding, the aim? He puts the iron at knee height”, commented Iturralde González. Alfredo Relaño added: “And what does Medié do in the VAR?”.
Yellow card for Raíllo for fouling Rodrygo (69′)
Overcome the equator of the second part, Rodrygo had to withdraw injured due to a hard tackle by Raíllo, sanctioned with a foul and a yellow card: “This one goes down, he’s late… This one is different from Maffeo’s. Raíllo goes down and steps on Rodrygo. It’s a clear warning”Iturralde explained. The referee of Carrusel Deportivo advocates revising the rule to be able to show the red in this type of action, but argues that with the current regulations the action is yellow. “Not all the stomps have to stay only in yellow. Rodrygo has his foot on the ground, Raíllo comes very strong and ends up stepping on him. It may be red, but the referees have their hands tied, because the circular tells them that a stomp down is a warning. The force is much greater than when you step without throwing yourself. You have to give it a spin, not all the stomps have to stay in a warning”.
