The CNMC approves the marketing of LaLiga’s TV rights in Asia-Pacific countries

MADRID, 7 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The CNMC has approved a report so that LaLiga can market the audiovisual rights of a free-to-air match from LaLiga Santander and another from LaLiga SmartBank and the ‘play-offs’, and the broadcast in public establishments and summaries, as well as for some countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

In this report, the CNMC recommends suppressing the possibility of submitting offers for a period of four and/or five seasons, setting objective criteria for assessing the requirements when awarding the lots, limiting the discretion of La Liga and increasing certainty for the operators.

Also eliminate discrimination between operators, such as the restriction that only pay television operators can bid for the entire LaLiga SmartBank championship, not including faculties, reservations or ownership of rights not attributed by the Royal Decree-law of May 2015.

Likewise, not to impose obligations related to advertising that are not covered by the norm and that are unjustified and contrary to the principle of freedom of enterprise.

The CNMC has also approved a report in which it analyzes the conditions proposed by LaLiga to market the audiovisual rights of LaLiga Santander and SmartBank and the play-offs in certain countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

In this report, the CNMC recommends, among other aspects, preserving the principles of publicity, transparency, competitiveness and non-discrimination in the process of awarding rights.

Likewise, not include faculties, reservations or ownership of rights not attributed by the Royal Decree-Law of May 2015, clarify the conditions regarding linear or non-linear broadcasting, and not discriminate between operators.
