BARCELONA, 22 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is ready to host, from the 24th to the 26th of May, the “best edition” of the Catalunya MotoGP Grand Prix, an event presented this Wednesday in the Monastery of Sant Miquel del Poble Espanyol, on the mountain of Montjuïc .

Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Labor of the Generalitat of Catalonia and president of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, assured that 2024 will be “the best edition” of the MotoGP Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

“It is one of the great events in the world and generates a lot of fans in our country. In this new edition, fans will already be able to enjoy some of the improvements that have been made to the facilities. The Circuit was already one of the best stable circuits in the world. world and now even more,” said Torrent.

Torrent presided over the presentation, accompanied by the Sports Councilor of Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, the CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, and also by the general director of the RACC, Xavier Pérez.

Some of the weekend’s protagonists were not missing from the event, such as the MotoGP riders Marc Márquez, Álex Márquez and Aleix Espargaró; the Moto2 riders Albert Arenas, Xavier Artigas and Jeremy Alcoba and the Moto3 debutant Joel Esteban.

Marc Márquez, driver of the Gresini Racing team, assured that the Catalunya GP is the “most important” for Catalan drivers. “Although it is not a circuit where I have had excellent results, we will try to do our best with this bike. The change I made to Ducati was to enjoy myself again and the simple fact of being competitive again and being among the best gives me an extra push,” he said.

His brother and teammate, Álex Márquez, pointed out that running at home gives that “little push” that gives you “a few tenths more.” “Even so, last year we did quite well at the Circuit and I think we can be fighting again. I hope above all not to make mistakes so as not to sacrifice qualifying or the sprint race, in order to prepare well for the weekend” , he highlighted.

Aleix Espargaró, Aprilia team rider who usually does well on a circuit near his native Granollers, regretted not having the desired results this year. “But we are not that far away either. It is clear that I would have liked to score a few more points but we are at the beginning of the season and I feel comfortable with the bike, I think it is better than the 2023 one. So it is a good weekend to achieve a good result at home,” he predicted.

As for the authorities, the Sports Councilor of Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, assured that Barcelona is a city with a strong connection with motor sports. “We Barcelonans will enjoy and follow the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya MotoGP this weekend,” he assured.

For his part, the CEO of Dorna Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta, said he was “delighted” to be at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. “We started in 1992 and we have now had 33 editions of the Gran Premi de Catalunya. I would like to thank the Circuit for the effort it is making to modernize and for trying to improve year after year, both in terms of its facilities and its organization”, he highlighted.
