The Brazilian championship can resume in August

The Brazilian soccer championship can start to be played on August 9, according to what was reported on Thursday by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), after meeting with the 40 clubs that make up the first two divisions in the South American country.

Even if the biggest obstacle to the realization of the tournament is related to the permits of the municipal and regional health authorities, Most clubs showed their willingness to play outside their home cities if necessary.

“The return of football depends on the authorization of the health authorities. But, nineteen of the twenty clubs in the first division decided to play outside their cities, ultimately, if the health authorities to date have not authorized their municipalities to play, “said the statement released by the CBF.

The desire of the Confederation is to start the tournament after the regional championships, but they will most likely cross paths, since the pandemic only Rio de Janeiro has started their tournament.

If August 9 is kept as the start date, with 38 days, the Brazilian championship will end in February 2021.

As for the start of the second division tournament, the scheduled date is Friday, August 8, a day before the league's clubs enter the fields.

The CBF announced in mid-March the indefinite suspension of all national competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In principle, the tournaments will be played without an audience and under a specific protocol for health security that has not yet been disclosed by the entity.

With almost 55,000 deaths and more than 1.2 million infected, Brazil is the second country in the world worst hit by the pandemic after the United States.
