Christian Eriksen celebrates a very special birthday this Monday. Not only because of the fact that he is already 30 years old, a round number and that means opening a new stage in anyone’s life, but also because of everything that happened in the last months before reaching today. Because the Dane will celebrate today more than ever that he is still among us.
On the brink of tragedy
Just a few months ago, during the European Championship, Eriksen was involved in a chilling situation when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of the match against Iceland. He was “out of this world” for five minutes, as he himself recounted, but the quick reaction of the Danish medical services saved his life.

“I remember everything except five minutes. I remember the throw-in, the ball hitting my knee and I don’t know what happened afterwards. I woke up with a lot of people around me and pressure on my chest, trying to catch my breath. I didn’t understand what was going on,” the Dane recently explained.
Since that June 12, Eriksen has fought to feel like a footballer again. As a result of his collapse, a defibrillator was placed that marks the pace of his heartbeat. This element forced him to leave Inter, since the Italian league does not allow him to play with a pacemaker.
But far from collapsing, the midfielder has continued working to feel like a footballer again. Right now, on his 30th birthday, he’s closer than ever to getting it.
Eriksen has closed his transfer to Brentford and is now looking forward to having the opportunity to play. This weekend he was presented at the ‘bees’ stadium, but his debut was delayed until, at least, the match against Arsenal next Saturday.
Playing against the ‘gunners’ will undoubtedly be the best anniversary present for an Eriksen who inspires admiration as an example of perseverance and improvement.
