“I am not running for re-election. I said it in the Assembly because the place and the moment were the right ones. That microphone is the Athletic microphone. Our project continues to consolidate. We could be part of the problem and that is why I will continue until June, no more. I do not want the continuity of Aitor Elizegi to be mixed with the sports field ”.
The president of the rojiblanco club himself explained the reason for his decision to wait until June to terminate his stage at the helm of Athletic without trying to repeat another possible mandate via elections to the Ibaigane chair.
“In the focus we have put the importance of the project and of the key moment that Athletic lives. The figure of this president does not always achieve the moments of meeting and consensus that the club needs. We need to put the Athletic project before any other particular interest ”, he remarked regarding his decision.
The president of the Bilbao club considers that Athletic tied the game that was played on Saturday morning in San Mamés (assembly of compromisers members in which they approved the accounts of last season and rejected the management of that same course and the budget for this season) and won the night against Villarreal.
“The 2020-21 accounts are key to the history of this club. Yesterday (on Saturday) we approved them and we have taken a big step. We consider that this budget is necessary, but that shows that we have to keep working and put Athletic ahead. It is the second time that we have not managed to transfer the importance of a budget and it seems difficult to maintain this rhythm of disagreement at the club. We want to make it stronger and healthier in July 2022 than we received it “
