The American Jessica Pegula wins the Guadalajara tournament with authority

The American completed a solid victory over the Greek Maria Sakkari, to take her first WTA 1,000 and be ‘Top3’ of the ranking

MADRID, 24 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The American tennis player Jessica Pegula prevailed with authority in two sets (6-2, 6-3) against the Greek Maria Sakkari in the final of the tournament in Guadalajara (Mexico), the first WTA 1,000 that she lifts, with a solid victory that It also allowed to be placed among the three best tennis players in the world ranking.

In the previous tournament of the WTA Finals, it took Pegula just over an hour to confirm her favoritism over the current number five in the ranking. After Kazakh Elena Rybakina suffered the first big warning in her debut at the tournament, the American learned her lesson and always improved her tennis, until offering her most competitive version in the final, to win the second title of her career, the first in the WTA 1,000 category.

In the first set, Pegula was very dominant, especially with her first serve (with it she won 91 per cent of her points), cornering a lost Sakkari on the court. The decisive moment came when the American broke the Greek’s serve in the fifth game to make it 3-2, something that would happen on Sakkari’s next serve, so that the current number three in the world closed this first set with a sober 6 -2 in 28 minutes.

Already in the second set, Sakkari started confidently, winning her first serve, but Pegula continued to be immeasurable. He broke the third game and confirmed it with his serve to make it 3-1. The errors condemned the Greek, who saw the American break serve on two more occasions. Finally, Pegula closed the match with a convincing 6-3, in a game where his rival missed too much, even with a double fault.
