The Alberto Contador Foundation awards more than 7,000 euros for ‘Pedelea contra el ictus’

MADRID, 3 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Alberto Contador Foundation and the Freno al Ictus Foundation donated this Tuesday the proceeds obtained in the 2nd edition of ‘Pedalea contra el ictus’, an event where they raised 7,068.04 euros, a figure that they gave to the solidarity projects ‘Compete with DCA’ and Kiero project.

Alberto Contador himself, president of his foundation, the president of the Brake Stroke Foundation, Julio Agredano, the founder and director of the Second Part Foundation, attended an event held at the facilities of the Alberto Contador Foundation in Pinto (Madrid). Marta Pérez, and the co-creator of the ‘Program Kiero’, Pedro Vaquero, as well as some of the participants of the projects that have won the award.

There, the 7,068.04 euros were delivered, which are divided equally between the two projects. The money was obtained through the 2nd edition of ‘Pedelea contra el ictus’, a solidarity action carried out by the Fundación Freno al Ictus and the Fundación Alberto Contador with the help of RPM-MKTG, which was carried out online through end of last year and where great personalities from the world of Spanish sport collaborated.

The winning projects have been ‘Compete with DCA’, from the Fundación Segunda Parte, which is an initiative for people with acquired brain injury (ABI) to start in competitive sport and the ‘Kiero Project’, which tries to promote the self-leadership and creative empowerment among those affected by stroke or DCA and in which Ceadac (IMSERSO State Reference Center for Attention to Brain Damage) collaborates.

Alberto Contador was happy to have been able to carry out this solidarity action. “We are very happy to culminate the second edition of Pedalea contra el Ictus with the most important moment: the delivery of the money raised to the chosen project. This year, and it is something that particularly satisfies us, we have been able to grow and have a second project to which an amount will also be allocated. Both the Second Part Foundation and the Kiero Program do a formidable job with sport and physical activity as the backbone”, he declared.

“Knowing first-hand the experiences of some of the users of these initiatives reinforces the importance of continuing to strengthen these projects to combat and mitigate the sequelae and consequences of Acquired Brain Injury. That ‘now what’, that recovery of the desire to doing things, wanting to live, which one of the users told us about,” added Contador.

The president of the Fundación Freno al Ictus, Julio Agredano, commented that ‘Pedalea contra el ictus’ has two main objectives, to make the disease visible in society through a widely publicized event, and to raise resources to be able to allocate them to finalist projects that help improve and reduce the impact of stroke on society. According to him, both objectives were met in this edition and work has begun for the 2022 edition.

Those responsible for the winning projects expressed their gratitude for this initiative. “We are enormously grateful to the ‘Pedelea contra el ictus’ project, thanks to this initiative we can give the opportunity to athletes who are interested in taking another step in their sports development, accompanying and guiding them with the highest quality and affection”, commented Marta Pérez, director of the Second Part Foundation.

For his part, the co-creator of the ‘Program Kiero’, Pedro Vaquero, explained that “after the success of the first edition of the program that took place at the end of last year, the second edition began in early April with 15 affected by Stroke and ACD”. “We would like to thank both the Ictus Brake Foundation and the Alberto Contador Foundation for their contribution, which will allow access to the program for a greater number of those affected in future editions,” he added.

Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease that, according to the Spanish Society of Neurology, affects 120,000 people each year in Spain and is the leading cause of death in women in the country, as well as the second leading cause of dementia in the world after Alzheimer’s. It is a pathology that can be prevented and treated in which reaction time is essential to avoid sequelae.
