The 8th 15Km MetLife Madrid Activa aims to reach 6,000 participants

The VIII edition of the 15Km MetLife Madrid Activa, presented at the Vallehermoso Stadium in Madrid, aims to reach 6,000 participants in 2023 and continue to grow in the pre-pandemic tonic, led by its sports director Abel Antón, double marathon world champion

The only 15-kilometer test organized in the capital of Spain will cover the main avenues and streets of Madrid next Sunday, March 12, starting at 09:00, with a slightly different route but starting at Paseo de la Castellana and finishing in the Esplanade of the Selection.

The runners will pass through important arteries such as Paseo de la Castellana, Plaza de Cibeles, Puerta de Alcalá, Menéndez Pelayo, Alfonso XII, Plaza de Colón, Génova, Sagasta, Carranza, Alberto Aguilera, Marqués de Urquijo, La Rosaleda and end in Madrid Río .

The presentation ceremony was attended by the general director of Sports of the Madrid City Council, Alicia Martín, the director and founder of the Fundación Educación Activa, Fátima Guzmán, and the vice president for southern Europe and general director of MetLife Iberia, Oscar Herencia.

Abel Antón assured that he was “very grateful” for commanding the sports part of a “very special” race. Year after year the race had been winning unconditionally and, once the pandemic was over, it is called to achieve great goals, with the aim of reaching 6,000 runners, with 3,800 registered today. “We are confident that in the days remaining until registration closes, within a month, we will reach the dream figure,” said Antón.

For her part, Fátima Guzmán thanked all the efforts of the organization “in especially difficult times.” “They help us give visibility and disseminate the work of our Foundation in relation to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)”, she pointed out, referring to a neurological disorder that affects 7% of the child population.

Oscar Herencia expressed his “satisfaction” for facing, as main sponsor, the eighth edition of the 15Km MetLife Madrid Activa. “We remain firm, excited and convinced of this initiative linked to the opportunity to help children and their families in their fight against ADHD”, he asserted.

After the presentation, held in the covered module of the Vallehermoso Stadium, a solidarity relay was held with the aim of contributing to give visibility to the work of the Fundación Educación Activa. A total of 38 runners covered the distance of 15 kilometers, taking turns every 400 meters.

Óscar Herencia starred in the first of the relays, Alicia Martín the second, and Abel Antón, Alicia Martín and Oscar Herencia the last. A race in which also participated, among others, the champions of the last edition of the 15 km MetLife Madrid Activa, Eva García and John Chebii; as well as the journalists Gaspar Díez, Lourdes García Campos, Félix José Casillas and Javier Callejo.
