The Olympic runner-up falls in the final against Canada (13-15)

The Spanish women’s basketball team 3×3 has fallen this Sunday in the Champions Cup final, a new tournament that brings together eight national combination and is held in Bangkok (Thailand) under the organization of the FIBA and sponsorship of the Red Bull Energy Drink brand, in front of Canada (13-15).
The Spanish team, formed by Ainhoa Gervasini, Alba Prieto, Vega Gimeno and Ceci Muhate, began sending and remained in the fight after the Canadians, led by an extraordinary Saicha Grant-Allen-who scored seven points-, they turned the scoreboard (8-9).
The current Olympic runners-up and continental champions recovered the initiative with two baskets and a two-way shot, the highest scorer of theirs (6), but Grant-Allen went to the rescue of the US team.
Spain had advanced to the undefeated qualifiers after bending in their meetings of the group stage to Australia (21-13), to France (14-17) and Thailand (21-8), and this same Sunday they beaten Germany (20-8) on semifinals.
With his triumph, Canada ensures a ticket for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Champions Cup. In addition, in the Bronze match, Australia surpassed the Germans (18-17).
The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), Elisa Aguilar, praised the work of the Spanish quartet during the competition. “The runner -up of our female team in the Champions Cup confirms that a 3×3 championship is unthinkable in which Spain is not the protagonist. It is logical that our team is part of the palmarés of this first edition of the Champions Cup because very few countries have done both for the development of 3×3 and Spain,” he said.
“Our captain, Vega Gimeno, has managed to convey the values of the ‘Musketeers of the Concord’ and, now accompanied by Ceci, Alba and Ainhoa, has continued with the dream of Spain and has kept our country on the world podium. We are proud of this team, and excited by the world championship of this summer, in which we will return to aspire to everything,” he concluded.
