The 32 captains of the SVNS of Madrid meet at the Royal Palace

The captains of the best men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams in the world met this Wednesday at the Royal Palace of Madrid, before the starting signal of the HSBC SVNS grand final, in which the titles and the permanence of the team will be decided. May 31 to June 2 at the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium.

The traditional family photo with the 32 captains brought together many of the stars of international rugby in the last global event before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and in which some of the rugby superstars will participate, such as the French Antoine Dupont, the Irish Hugo Keenan, the New Zealander Portia Woodman or the English Ellie Kildunne since this Friday.

For this season, the HSBC SVNS changed format and introduced for the first time a grand final event in which both the champion titles and permanence will be decided. Madrid will be the scene of the outcome this weekend, with Argentina in the men’s category and New Zealand in the women’s category having finished in first position in the regular phase. The two Spanish teams, for their part, will fight to maintain the category and continue competing in 2024 among the 12 best teams.

Looking ahead to the fight for the title, the two best finishers in each group at the end of the matches played between them will advance to the gold semifinals and will be able to continue competing to be crowned champions. The teams that will fight for relegation will also have a group stage but on this occasion it will serve to decide their rival, since the best of one will be measured against the last of another.

The Metropolitano will have a large fanzone in the vicinity of the stadium with food, drinks and even a swimming pool. In addition, fans will be able to enjoy performances by Ptazeta, Chanel and local DJ Luc Loren.
