The 2026 soccer World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be the image of three commemorative coins

According to the Official State Gazette (BOE), the collection coins, which will not be destined to the circulation, will come in three formats: a piece of 8 reais and facial value of ten euros, a currency of 2 shields and value Facial of 100 euros and, finally, a 1 ounce and facial value of 400 euros.

Specifically, a maximum of 6,000 pieces of the 8 -reais currency will be coined, which will be priced at 61.98 euros; up to 1,500 of the 2 shields, which will cost 870 euros; and 800 units of the 1 ounce commemorative currency, with a value of 3,290 euros. The initial broadcast date will take place during the first quarter of 2025, as stated in the Official Gazette.

On the obverse of all the coins the portrait to the left of King Felipe VI will be reproduced, accompanied by the legend “Felipe VI King of Spain” at the top and the year of coinage 2025 at the bottom. In the reverse different football scenes will be represented along with details of the official branding of the tournament.

With this issuance, the Government continues the tradition of commemorative numerical numismatic coinage dedicated to international sporting events, as already did with the 2024 Eurocup held in Germany or the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
