The 2021 Income Campaign will start on April 6, with changes in income tax brackets for high incomes

The 2021 Income and Wealth Campaign, which includes as its main novelty the increase in the tax for income from 300,000 euros and for assets of more than 10 million, will start next april 6 with the presentation of the declarations by Internet, in accordance with the taxpayer’s calendar of the Tax Agency.

This year’s Income Campaign, which corresponds to the income obtained in 2021, will be extended between June 1 and 30 in an ordinary waybut previously, from next April 6, the first personal income tax and Wealth declarations can be submitted through the Internet, a medium already used by nine out of ten taxpayers.

Also, from next May 5 and until June 30 the personal income tax return can also be submitted by phone, and between June 1 and 30, coinciding with the ordinary period of the Campaign, taxpayers will be able to present their declaration at the offices of the Tax Agency. With the result to be deposited and with direct debit, the term ends on June 27.

Main novelties of this campaign

The main novelties of the IRPF of 2021 contemplate the increase of two points of the state rate that taxes the income from work of more than 300,000 euros, up to 47%and three points for capital income of more than 200,000 euros, up to 26%which will affect a reduced number of 36,194 taxpayers (0.17%), with an impact of 491.4 million euros (144 million in 2021 and 346 million in 2022), according to the estimates of the Ministry of Finance that collects Europa Press.

In addition, in 2021 the allowances for individual private pension plans were reduced to 2,000 euros as maximum contribution, while the joint reduction limit (participant and company) was raised from 8,000 to 10,000 euros in company plans to boost business contributions and correct the “regressivity” of these benefits, according to the Government. The measure will provide a collection of 580 million in 2022.

Regarding the Wealth Tax, last year the Budgets introduced a 1% increase for assets of more than 10 million euros, up to a rate of 3.5%.

9,900 million returned at the end of 2021

According to the latest data published by the Tax Agency in reference to the last Income Tax Campaign –IRPF 2020–, at the end of 2021 they had been returned 9,907 million euros to 13,859,000 taxpayers.

In this way, as of December 30, the 97.7% of returns requested in number and 94.3% of the corresponding amounts requested had been paid.

The Agency received a higher number of declarations that year (+2.9%), exceeding the figure of 21,725,000, of which more than 14,187,000 (-2%) have been with a refund request (65% of the total). In turn, 6,059,000 have given a result to enter (+7.4%).

The 2020 personal income tax campaign was characterized by a reinforcement of personalized assistance (at the taxpayer’s request), both by phone –with the ‘Le Call’ plan– and in offices, which facilitated the filing of 1,680,000 tax returns through these channels. , 14% more than last year.

In any case, the vast majority of taxpayers (20,045,000, more than 92% of the total) preferred file your returns online. More than 19,631,000 submitted them through the Agency’s website, 1.8% more than the previous year and 8.8% more than two years ago, and almost 414,000 through the Agency’s mobile application, 13.3% more than a year ago.
