Terelu and Carmen Borrego remember María Teresa Campos a year after her death and reveal previously unpublished details

It’s been a year since the death of Maria Teresa Camposwho passed away on September 5, 2023 at the age of 82. Her colleagues have remembered her from TVE with an emotional documentary that reviews not only her career but also the most personal side of the communicator. From Paolo Vasile, former CEO of Mediaset, to Xabier Sardá or Toñi Moreno have participated to remember the brilliant presenter and friend. Of course, also her daughters, Terelu and Carmen Borrego, who have revealed how complicated the beginnings of their mother’s career were: “We were embarrassed to be the daughters of Mari Tere Campos. It was difficult for me to make friends because my mother supported women and women’s rights. We became the daughters of the red.”

The sisters have recalled the most difficult years of their childhood, when their mother received serious threats: “The first time that Andalusia Day was celebrated, the place was full of families and suddenly all hell broke loose. I said ‘Look, grandma, they’re setting off fireworks’. They were smoke bombs,” Carmen said. “The riot police came out because someone placed a flag on the statue of the Marquis of Larios. My mother was on the radio and went to tell what had happened. From then on, very difficult times came and the threats began. Threats that were carried out, of course.”

“I was born with a mother who worked and at first it was normal. Then, when I was older, I realized that not all mothers work,” Terelu explained. “I knew that we had a different mother but I liked that different mother. She was a role model.”
