Tadej Pogacar: “It wasn’t a crazy stage as expected, but there was a lot of tension”

BARCELONA, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE) recognized that the second stage of the Tour de France “was not a crazy stage as expected”, although “there was a lot of tension” between the peloton with several falls, one of them less than three kilometers for the goal in which the winner of the last two editions was involved.

“It wasn’t a crazy stage, but there was a lot of tension and people in the ditches, which immediately brought me ‘flashbacks’ from the first stage of last year”, said Pogacar at the end of an eventful day, like the one that happened in the inaugural of 2021 that also left a repertoire of falls.

“I’m happy with today’s stage. Now I just hope no one was hurt in the crashes. A lot of people went down, including some of my teammates. I can’t wait to get to the bus and hear some good news.” pointed out the main candidate for the Tour, who crossed the finish line with hardly any pedaling due to a puncture in the front wheel.

On the equality in the last section of the race, the Slovenian valued the day as chaotic, although “without bad manners” in the peloton. “We have simply competed. For example, Christophe Laporte has given me a push to get out of the way when we were close to the finish line, to retrieve the wheel from his teammates. And it’s normal, this is a race”, he sentenced.
