Tadej Pogacar also exhibits in the Amstel Gold Race

MADRID, 16 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, from UAE Team Emirates, once again demonstrated his current form by winning the classic Amstel Gold Race this Sunday, two weeks after taking another prestigious one-day spring event like the Tour of Flanders.

The 24-year-old double winner of the Tour de France once again made it clear that he is not giving up anything on his calendar and added his fifth victory of the season after those also achieved in the Clásica de Jaén, the Vuelta a Andalucía and the Paris-Nice, a start that is a serious warning of his ‘greed’.

Pogacar was one of the clear candidates for victory and, as usual, he wanted to be the protagonist as soon as this classic began to harden. He got into the main break with less than a hundred kilometers to go and then, despite suffering a scare in the form of a puncture, made the final selection on the Eyserbosweg with just over 30 kilometers to go, only finding resistance from the British Tom Pidcock (INEOS ) and the Irishman Ben Healy (EF Education-Easy Post).

But the Slovenian strengthened his options shortly after. Mathieu van der Poel had advised him to attack on the Keutenberg, and that was where the Slovenian did to drop his two companions, unable to respond to his acceleration. The man from Komenda crossed the finish line alone and ended up prevailing with 38 seconds of rent over Healy, with Pidcock, third, more than two minutes away.
