Szoboszlai lets Madrid train pass and signs for Leipzig

Real Madrid is left without one of the players that it ‘monitored’ in Europe. Dominik Szoboszlai has signed for Leipzig until 2025, as the German club has announced on its social networks. There he will share a dressing room from January with the Spanish Dani Olmo and Angeliño. Until now, the young Hungarian midfielder, aged 20, played for Salzburg (his contract ended in 2022), which, like Leipzig, belongs to Red Bull. After having several offers on the table (Milan or Arsenal, among others) and learning about the interest of giants like Real Madrid, the Magyar pearl has decided to move to the Bundesliga.

According to various media, the Germans were even able to lower Szoboszlai's buyout clause, set at 25 million, to 20. In return, Salzburg secured 20 percent of a future sale, once again testing how easy these types of operations are between two clubs that share the same parent company. Be that as it may, Leipzig, currently third in the Bundesliga on equal points with Bayern in second place, wins a footballer who will be worth his weight in gold when it comes to fighting for the salad bowl in Germany.

The player himself, fast and with exquisite ball handling, was happy after taking the next step in his career. “This club has undergone a sensational evolution, is among the best in the Bundesliga and is causing a buzz in the Champions League,” said Szoboszlai, which also underlined the importance of coach Julian Nagelsmann in opting for the RB. “I join a top coach and a team of the most ambitious, who is young, but already has a lot of experience and was able to celebrate some successes”, he concluded.

Szoboszlai will wear jersey number 17 and will be able to play for Leipzig in the home game against Borussia Dortmund (January 9, 2021), as confirmed by the German club on its website. Szoboszlai is a star in Hungary and in Austria he is one of the figures of their Bundesliga. He signed for Salzburg on January 16, 2018 and ended his current contract on June 30, 2022. According to Transfermarkt, its price is 25 million euros.

Its progression is being tremendous in 2020 and the latest study by the CIES Football Observatory shows it. The left interior is the player in Europe who has created the most scoring chances for his teammates this season, ahead of established stars such as Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City) or Ángel di María (PSG). On November 17 his agent, Esterházy Mátyás, already announced that the player was very close to leaving his current club and hinted that fate had already been decided: “Whether it's in January or summer, the most important thing is that he will go to a place where we think he will have a good chance to play and a good chance to continue the development curve that started in Salzburg, because for us this is the most important”. In addition, yesterday Wednesday, Leipzig already hinted on their social networks that today they were going to announce the signing of one of the most promising players in Europe.
