ZURICH (SUIZA), 26 Sep. (dpa/EP) –
The young Swiss cyclist Muriel Furrer is in the hospital “in a very critical condition” due to head injuries after a hard fall during the junior online event of the Cycling World Cup being held in Zurich (Switzerland).
The International Cycling Union (UCI) indicated in a statement that the 18-year-old runner had suffered the accident for unknown reasons and that she had been rushed to hospital by helicopter. “She suffers a serious head injury and is in a very critical condition,” the agency added.
“At present, there are no established facts about how the accident occurred. Investigations by the competent authorities are ongoing. For this reason, no further information can be given until further notice,” the UCI warned.
The Swiss Cycling Federation reported that Furrer suffered serious head trauma in the accident, which they said occurred in a wooded area, while broadcaster SRF said he underwent emergency surgery.
