The Polish woman defeated the American Coco Gauff with authority 6-1 and 6-3

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek won her second Roland Garros women’s singles title this Saturday, after authoritatively defeating American Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 in a final that was resolved in one hour and eight minutes of play .
The world number one culminated her impeccable clay court season with her second Grand Slam title, defeating the 18th seed, who had not dropped a single set in the entire tournament.
The one from Warsaw gave herself another overwhelming exhibition in a season where she has been practically unbeatable and where she already has a streak of 35 consecutive victories, beating Serena Williams and tying Venus Williams for third place on the list.
The champion in Paris in 2020 completely dismantled Gauff, who made her debut in the ‘Grand Slam’ final as the youngest player to reach the Roland Garros final since Kim Clijsters in 2001, and in any ‘big’ since Maria Sharapova in 2004. However, the American could not surprise a rival who only gave up in four games to remain at the top of the world women’s tennis.
It took Swiatek almost an hour to get rid of Gauff in Philippe-Chatrier. The first set was a full-fledged recital by the 21-year-old Pole, who frustrated a Gauff outmatched by Swiatek’s effectiveness. She let loose and with four games in a row she left her opponent without options breaking serve three times to take the first set 6-1.
The American did not give up and in the first game of the second round she broke Swiatek’s serve to make it 0-2 and harbor a minimum of hope. But the Pole showed her class and came back from the set to close the match placidly (6-3).
After turning 21 on Tuesday, Swiatek is the fourth youngest player to win more than once in Paris: only Monica Seles, Stefanie Graf and Chris Evert were younger when they did it. With this triumph, she has become the youngest woman to win multiple majors since Maria Sharapova won her second Grand Slam title at the age of 19 at the 2006 US Open.
In addition, the number one wins her sixth title of the year, all of them consecutive during her winning streak (after Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart and Rome), making her the first player to win six titles in a row since Justine Henin in 2007 and 2008.
