Suzuki wins and Ogden ruins David Almansa’s podium in Moto3

MADRID, 2 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Japanese rider Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda) prevailed this Sunday in the Moto3 race of the Argentine Grand Prix, the second round of the Motorcycle World Championship, ahead of the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (KTM) and the Italian Andrea Migno (KTM), while that substitute David Almansa (CFMoto) saw his podium finish frustrated after being thrown on the last lap.

Almansa, who went to Argentina as a substitute for Australian Joel Kelso, injured in Portugal, staged a spectacular comeback from twenty-fifth starting place to the podium places, but the British Scott Ogden (Honda) took him ahead in the turn end and prevented him from finishing.

In this way, the Spanish Dani Holgado (KTM) retains the leadership of the small displacement with 36 points, the same that give the second place to Moreira, while Suzuki is third with 27 units.

With the rain being the protagonist on the day of racing at Termas de Río Hondo, the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (KTM) snatched ahead of the ‘poleman’ on Saturday, the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna), to take the lead of the test. However, just one lap later he lost the lead in favor of the Turkish Deniz Öncü (KTM).

With 16 laps to go, the Ottoman crashed at turn 11 and left control to the Japanese Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda), with Jaume Masià (Honda) at his wheel. However, from behind, David Almansa (CFMoto) appeared like an exhalation, who overcame the Spaniard to establish himself as a candidate for victory.

With the asphalt wet, Suzuki increased their distance while behind them they fought for the podium places. Dani Holgado (KTM), winner in Portimao, Masià, Almansa, Xavi Artigas (CFMoto) and polesitter Sasaki – who crashed out with eight laps to go – went for the leader.

Masià got out of the fight when he crashed with five laps to go, while the Japanese driver was already six seconds ahead of his rivals. Only a little later, a touch between Artigas and Muñoz also ruled them out of the podium.

Another substitute like the Italian Andrea Migno (KTM) -in this case Lorenzo Fellon- joined the fight. In the final turn, the British Scott Ogden (Honda) touched Almansa when he was in podium positions while Suzuki celebrated the victory.

Holgado, with Ogden’s suspension, was fourth, Artigas finished seventh and David Salvador (KTM) finished ninth. David Muñoz (KTM) finished sixteenth, Almansa seventeenth, Iván Ortolá (KTM) nineteenth, Ana Carrasco (KTM) twenty-first and José Antonio Rueda (KTM), twenty-third. Masià failed to finish.
